It’s been a long time coming. And that, in many ways, is the point.
Cross Section Music is proud to announce Time — the debut album from Retro Emotion, the collaborative project of Chris Simmonds and Perth-based composer and producer Paul Frazer Clarke. Due for release in September 2026, the album marks a full-circle moment for both artists, picking up a creative thread that began when the two were making house music together on Cross Section Records in the early 1990s.
The album is currently in the mixing stage, and it’s shaping up to be something special. Time spans jazz-funk, soulful grooves, house, and downtempo — a natural reflection of where two experienced producers land when they’re given the space to work without compromise.
The collaborator list is equally strong. US jazz-fusion legend Jeff Lorber features across two tracks, bringing his unmistakable musicianship to the project. Hip-hop and spoken word artist Nelson Dialect contributes alongside vocalist GG Sargeant — a cast that reflects the breadth and ambition of the project as a whole.
Alongside the new material, there are a few surprises in store for the Cross Section faithful. More on those soon.
Time is scheduled for September 2026 on Cross Section Music. Watch this space.
